TRAINING
Whitmere's trainer is Alicia
Madretzke. Alicia has years of experience training hunters and jumpers
throughout New Jersey. During Alicia's career as a junior, she qualified during
multiple years for Devon, Harrisburg, and Washington. As Alicia prepared for
her career as a professional, she worked and trained with Anne Kursinski at
Market Street in Frenchtown, New Jersey. Prior to opening Whitmere, Alicia performed freelance training services at several other
facilities in the Hunterdon County area. Alicia is now very happy to be returning to
Black River Stables, where she runs a successful training program tailored to suit each unique horse and rider team.
Alicia primarily trains
students who compete in hunters, jumpers, and equitation, but she also has
students who participate in other disciplines such as eventing and fox hunting,
and is able to apply her training techniques to other disciplines when called
upon. Alicia specializes in training young and green horses and has
provided many young horses a solid foundation for a successful show career.
As a professional, Alicia has competed at the highest levels of our sport in both the hunter and jumper ring.
The
training program at Whitmere includes lessons, professional rides,
coaching and preparation at horse shows. These services are
provided either as requested by the client, and billed on an individual
basis, or as part of a monthly training package designed to meet the
client's needs. Ship-ins for lessons and shows are also welcome
and easily accomodated.

SERVICES
Boarding
at Whitmere is provided directly through Black River Farm in Oldwick,
New Jersey. Stalls are cleaned twice daily and water and feed
tubs are rinsed and scrubbed daily. Our aisle, wash stall, trunk
room, and tack room are kept neat at all times. Black River
offers both basic board and full service board, which includes tack-up
and daily grooming services. Black River boasts an experienced,
competent staff who work patiently and kindly with the horses.
Services such as body clipping, mane pulling, bathing, grooming,
and basic medical care are provided with expert skill.
Each
horse is turned out on a daily basis in one of Black River Farm's large
turnout fields. Horses can be turned out individually or in small
groups, depending upon each client's preference. Because of the
extent of Back River's turnout area, we are quite fortunate to be able
to accomodate horses that require long periods of turnout during the
day. During the summer months, horses can be turned out overnight
in fields with run-in sheds. For those horses that require
smaller or limited turnout for medical or other reasons, Black River
also has small paddocks available. Each horse's feet are picked upon
return from turn-out.
Whitmere's feeding program is designed to
accommodate each horse's specific dietary needs. We stock a variety of top
quality grains that are combined to provide the optimal level of energy and
nutrition for each horse. Horses are generally hayed three to four times per
day, or as much as needed. We also feed alfalfa cubes to certain horses for
increased energy, weight gain, or improved digestion. Supplements are fed once
to twice daily at no additional charge. If your horse requires special dietary
considerations, Whitmere can accomodate most needs upon
request.
Whitmere's farrier visits every five weeks and Whitmere's
chiropractor visits every six weeks. Whitmere uses Running S Equine Veterinary
Services, who are available by appointment and always on call for emergencies.
Boarders are welcome to use the farrier, chiropractor, and vet recommended by
Whitmere or may use another professional of their choice, so long as each horse is receiving
adequate care and receives routine vaccinations and worming along with the
remainder of the barn. Whitmere uses a regular rotational worming schedule and
worming is included in basic board.
